169 people were killed and 50 others wounded in an armed attack targeting the Abimenom area in the Rowing Administrative Region of the Republic of South Sudan. Speaking to Anadolu Agency, the state’s Information Minister, James Munelwak Myok, said that dozens of armed youths from Unity State (north) set fire to market squares and homes in Abimenom on Sunday.                   Miok explained that 169 people, including two high-ranking officials, were killed in the attacks, while 50 others were injured.      He added that the army had driven the attackers out of the area and that authorities in Abyemnom had regained full control of the region.  Miok condemned the attack, calling on Unity State to “bring the perpetrators to justice.”It is worth noting that in 2011, South Sudan seceded from Sudan following a popular referendum, and since late 2013 has been plagued by a civil war that has taken on a tribal dimension, leaving some 10,000 dead and hundreds of thousands displaced.
