Local crafts and professions between extinction and impending extinction (muezzin)

M.C.N.
Not long ago, the muezzin had multiple duties in addition to his main task of calling the adhan. He was responsible for leading the prayer, opening and closing the mosque, and acting on behalf of the imam in his absence or incapacity. Some of them were even responsible for supervising the cleanliness of the mosque. All of this was secondary to his primary role, which was to use his voice to clearly announce the time of prayer. When leading the prayer, he would prepare the mosque and stand behind the imam to participate in the prayer, if he was knowledgeable about the Islamic rulings related to prayer. When the call to prayer is made, he stands in a high place that helps the call to be heard clearly, such as a minaret. Inside the mosque, he stands near the mihrab, and after the call to prayer, he sits or stands to pray anywhere in the mosque. His salary was not fixed or regular and depended mostly on the mosque's income and donations from benefactors, but today it is set by the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs and ranges from 800 dirhams to 1,100 dirhams per month, unless it has been adjusted.
